District Co-ordination Officer Multan Zahid Saleem Gondal Saturday rejected allegations by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf that the authorities were responsible for a stampede in the party's public meeting. At least seven people were killed and nearly 40 injured in the stampede at PTI rally in Multan on Friday.
PTI Chief Imran Khan and Vice President of the party Shah Mehmood Qureshi shifted the blame on the on district administration for mismanagement. They claimed that the authorities had only opened five gates of the Qasim Bagh ground and had also cut off the power supply. "Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has had to control the affair inside the ground, we have written proof," the DCO claimed. Talking to reporters DCO Multan Zahid Saleem Gondal stated that generator was used for power supply in Qasim Bagh ground for PTI gathering for which PTI leadership told me and CPO.
He said that demand for power supply was only for gathering which was fulfilled. He further said that PTI leadership is accusing to hush up its own inadequacy. Denying the allegations of power supply cut off DCO stated that PTI administration is responsible if any light on the gate was switched off. "We kept telling the PTI administration to keep everything in order but they have their own system and they seldom listen to anyone." DCO Multan said that 15 walkthrough gates and 2200 Police personals were deployed for security of PTI get-together. Zahid Saleem Gondal welcomed the investigation and stated that if he was found guilty he should be suspended but if PTI is responsible, then they should decide their own fate.
