Sachin Tendulkar’s son makes it into India U-19

Arjun Tendulkar, son of the legendary Indian batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar, has jumped a step ahead in pursuing a career in international cricket after getting picked in India's Under-19 squad that will tour Sri Lanka in July for two four-day games.

However, unlike his father - the batting genius, Arjun is a left-arm medium pacer and left-hand batsman. But not all has been smooth sailing for the 18-year-old after he suffered from multiple stress fractures throughout his young career.

"It hasn't been an easy journey for Arjun. I've seen that boy very closely. From suffering back-to-back stress fractures three years ago to struggling with a spate of injuries, he has worked very hard to get here," said Atul Gaikwad, a level-three coach from the National Cricket Academy, quoted Hindustan Times.

Taller and thinner than his father, the youngster revealed how he ended up bowling. "When I bowl I just think hit the deck hard with every ball and when I bat I just play my shots, and choose which bowlers to take on and which not to," stated Arjun, quoted BBC.

"And I just loved bowling fast in my childhood. So I thought I might as well be a fast bowler because there's not many in India," he added.
