ISLAMABAD: State Minister for Communication Junaid Anwar Chaudhary on Wednesday informed the National Assembly that 40 per cent decrease was reported in road accidents on National Highways during year 2017.
Replying to a calling attention notice raised by Khalida Mansoor regarding increase in road accidents on National Highways due to rash and negligent driving of dumpers-trucks, the minister said as many as 428 accidents occurred in 2017 and 428 people lost their lives in it.
Similarly, he said some 788 accidents were reported during 2016 and 545 people had lost their lives.
The minister said motorway police were making all efforts to minimize road accidents and regularly holding seminars and campaigns to create awareness among the people.
He said the motorway police had also installed cameras at various point to check speed of vehicles.
