LAHORE: Punjab Housing Minister Bilal Yasin has said that the under the Apni Chhat Apna Ghar Programme, the Punjab government has approved over 224,000 cases for interest-free loans, helping the deserving families turn their dream of owning a home into reality.

He expressed these views on Thursday while talking to beneficiaries of the Apni Chhat Apna Ghar Programme in Bahawalpur, Sahiwal and Sargodha over a telephone to review construction progress and reaffirm the government’s commitment to transparency, merit and interest-free housing loans for deserving families.

Providing a divisional breakdown of the beneficiaries, Bilal Yasin said 29,658 families in Sargodha division, 26,903 in Rawalpindi division and 26,878 in Dera Ghazi Khan division had benefited from interest-free loans for house construction. Similarly, 26,165 deserving families in Gujranwala division, 25,468 in Lahore division and 25,402 in Faisalabad division had received interest-free loans under the programme. In Bahawalpur division, 21,804 families had benefited, while 13,584 families in Sahiwal division had received financial assistance for constructing their homes through interest-free loans.

Yasin directed the relevant authorities to establish direct contact with beneficiary families across all districts to obtain public feedback on the programme. He emphasised that public feedback would be used to further strengthen transparency, ensure merit and improve the effective implementation of the programme so that an increasing number of deserving families could benefit from this facility.

He also said the programme was an exemplary initiative based on transparency, merit and public service. He added that the pro-poor programme was not only enabling deserving families to fulfil their dream of owning a home but also strengthening public confidence in merit-based government initiatives.
