LAHORE: The Punjab government has decided to ban spy devices, including glasses, pens, watches and other gadgets fitted with hidden cameras and recording equipment, to protect women, children and citizens’ privacy.

According to the Punjab Home Department, strict legal action will be taken against the illegal use and sale of spy equipment and covert electronic devices. The department said the decision was aimed at safeguarding citizens’ privacy and personal information amid complaints of illegal surveillance, harassment and blackmail involving such devices.

It said the provincial government remained committed to protecting citizens’ fundamental rights and preventing the misuse of technology to violate personal privacy.

The public has been advised that the illegal use of everyday items equipped with hidden cameras or recording devices could attract strict legal penalties.
