Engro Powergen Qadirpur Limited (EPQL), a subsidiary of Engro Energy Limited, on Tuesday has appointed Khurram Abdullah as chief executive officer with effect from October 15, replacing Athar Abrar Khwaja, who has resigned from the role and joined the company’s board as a director.

The listed company disclosed the development in a notice to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on

“The Board of Directors of Engro Powergen Qadirpur Limited has appointed Khurram Abdullah as CEO of the company with effect from October 15, 2026,” read the notice.

The company said that Abdullah shall hold office as CEO for the remainder of the term, ending on the date of the next election of directors.

“In connection with this transition, Athar Abrar Khwaja has resigned as CEO of the company and has been co-opted as a director to fill the casual vacancy on the Board. He shall hold office for the remainder of the term, ending on the date of the next election of directors,” it added.

EPQL is an independent power producer incorporated in 2006 and headquartered in Karachi. The company operates a 217 MW combined cycle power plant near Qadirpur, District Ghotki. The plant, which has a 1+1+1 configuration including a gas turbine, a heat recovery steam generator (HRSG), and a steam turbine, achieved commercial operation in March 2010.

EPQL primarily uses permeate gas from the Qadirpur gas field as its fuel, a by-product that was previously flared and wasted since the field’s development in 1995. High-Speed Diesel (HSD) serves as a backup fuel. The company was listed on the Karachi Stock Exchange in October 2014.

Engro Energy Ltd. (formerly Engro Powergen Limited) has historically been the major shareholder, holding approximately 69% of EPQL’s shares as of December 31, 2018. In February 2026, Engro Energy Limited sold about 18.53% of its shares for Rs1.5 billion, reducing its stake from 68.89% to 50.36%, while retaining majority ownership and management control.
