RLNG supply constraints: KE warns of 'load management' during peak hours

  • Daytime power supply would remain largely stable, KE spokesperson says
Published Updated

K-Electric (KE) might resort to load management during evening and night peak hours due to nationwide regasified liquefied natural gas (RLNG) supply constraints, the power utility’s spokesperson said on Friday.

KE is the primary power utility responsible for electricity generation, transmission, and distribution in Karachi.

Peak hours are from 6:30pm to 10:30pm from April to October and 6:00pm to 10:00pm from November to March.

In a post on social media platform X, Imran Rana said international supply disruptions and delayed cargoes had constrained RLNG supplies, affecting power generation across the country, including KE’s service territory.

He said daytime power supply would remain largely stable, while load management could be undertaken as “an extreme, last-resort measure during evening/night peak hours, if necessitated”.

Rana added that KE was in close coordination with Pakistan LNG Limited (PLL) and relevant authorities and was making efforts to normalise the situation at the earliest.
