Pakistan working to narrow differences in Iran-US conflict, says DG ISPR

  • Says Pakistan has been an ‘honest broker’ in Iran-US conflict
Published Updated

Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry has said Pakistan remains committed to a negotiated and peaceful resolution of the Iran-US conflict, stressing that the war must not expand further.

In an excerpt from an interview with CNN shared on X by the broadcaster’s correspondent Ivan Watson, the military spokesperson said Pakistan would continue doing whatever possible and necessary to narrow differences and help secure a peaceful outcome.

“Pakistan has been a very honest broker. So neutrality and everything stands with honesty,” he said in response to a query, adding that the country had a stake in regional peace and stability.

Chaudhry said Pakistan had clearly stated its position to its partners and friends, condemning both the Israeli and US attacks on Iran and Iran’s attacks on Gulf countries.

“We don’t mince our words,” he said, adding that no one would benefit from an expansion of the conflict.

Responding to a question about the Makkah defence agreement, the DG ISPR said Pakistani forces had been deployed in Saudi Arabia for decades and that the relationship between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye was built on sustained diplomatic, political, military and people-to-people ties.

He said the agreement had not emerged in isolation and that its implementation and outcomes would be “purely defensive”.

Chaudhry said the objective was not to start labelling countries as friends or enemies, but to defend Saudi Arabia and the two holy mosques, Al-Masjid al-Haram in Makkah and Al-Masjid an-Nabawi in Madinah.

He said all three countries had significant military, diplomatic and other capabilities, adding that the alliance’s objective was the defence of Saudi Arabia and the Haramain Sharifain.

Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye signed the trilateral defence framework two months ago, establishing a mechanism aimed at strengthening collective security, military coordination and deterrence among the three countries.
