Aasan Tax Scheme: 1,016 tax returns filed so far, FBR tells IMF
The FBR reported to the IMF that only 1,016 retailers filed returns under the Aasan Tax Scheme, collecting Rs 86 million, significantly below the Rs 50 billion target.
- Low compliance with the Retailers Fixed Scheme.
- FBR's revenue targets versus actual tax collection.
- Extended deadline and penalties for non-filing retailers.
ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has updated the International Monetary Fund (IMF) that there are 1,016 returns filed by retailers/shopkeepers under the Aasan Tax Scheme.
The issue came to light during the review talks for undertaking the fourth review under the USD7 billion Extended Fund Facility (EFF).
During a meeting with the Ministry of Finance and FBR, the IMF mission inquired about the progress on the Retailers Fixed Scheme whereby the FBR aimed to generate Rs 50 billion in the current fiscal year.
Sources said that around 1,016 have filed their returns under the Retailers Fixed Scheme so far, and only 91 are fresh filers. Total deposited tax under this scheme stands at Rs 86 million till now.
The FBR has extended the deadline for filing of Income Tax returns from September 30 to October 15, 2026. The retailers can also avail this extended deadline, but their response is not encouraging.
The government had incorporated in the tax laws that after expiry of the deadline there will be a penalty of Rs 10,000 in the first month, Rs 25,000 in the second month, and Rs 50,000 in the third month who fail to avail this scheme.
