LAHORE: Punjab Local Government Minister Zeeshan Rafique has said that the Punjab government is stepping up anti-smog measures across the province, with plans to equip Field Monitoring Officers (FMOs) with uniform-mounted body cameras to ensure strict enforcement and field oversight.
He expressed these views while chairing a meeting of Suthra Punjab Authority on Tuesday. Punjab Local Government Secretary Zaid Bin Maqsood, Suthra Punjab Authority DG Umer Javed, Technical Members Chaudhry Jafar Iqbal, Ali Tariq, Saira Iftikhar and Muzaffar Islam also attended the meeting, while all commissioners joined the meeting via video link.
On this occasion, matters of the authority, especially making anti-smog measures more effective, were discussed. On the directions of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the installation of body cams on the uniforms of Field Monitoring Officers (FMOs) was also reviewed.
The minister expressed his resolve to ensure full implementation of the decisions of the recent meeting chaired by the chief minister, saying that they all have to ensure implementation of the instructions issued by the environment department at all levels at the beginning of the smog season. He warned that strict action would be taken against those who blow dust while cleaning roads or burn garbage. He observed that FMOs have a fundamental role in monitoring field workers. “The installation of body cams will facilitate monitoring of movement in beats,” he noted. During the meeting, the members of the authority praised the geomapping initiative at the union council level, directing further improvement.
