KARACHI: Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has said the provincial government is pursuing an integrated plan to improve Karachi’s infrastructure, transport connectivity, water and drainage systems and other urban services.
In a statement, he said major projects, including the Port Qasim - M-9 link road and the Red Line and Yellow Line bus rapid transit projects, are part of the PPP Sindh government’s efforts to improve connectivity and support the megacity’s economic activity.
He said the proposed elevated expressway linking Karachi Port with Qayyumabad would provide a strategic connection between the port, industrial areas and major highways, while easing heavy traffic on the city’s roads.
The Karachi Port-Qayyumabad Corridor would connect the port to M-9 and other key routes via Qayyumabad and Shahrah-e-Bhutto, improving freight movement and supporting trade and industrial activity, he added.
He said the Sindh government’s objective was to develop Karachi as a modern city through coordinated investment in urban infrastructure and public facilities.
“Karachi is not only the economic hub of Sindh but of Pakistan. Investment in the city’s infrastructure is, therefore, an investment in the country’s economic development,” he said.
