QUETTA: Balochistan Assembly opposition member Zahid Reki threw his passport on the assembly floor in protest after claiming he was stopped at the airport and declared a terrorist.
Speaking on a point of order during the Balochistan Assembly session, Zahid Reki said he was stopped by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) at the airport while he was travelling to Madinah.
He said he later learned that Additional Home Secretary Hamza Shafqat had blocked his passport. Reki said he called the official but he did not answer the phone.
The opposition lawmaker said, “When we go to Washuk, terrorists are after us, and when we come to Quetta, we are declared terrorists.”
He demanded that he be told which banned organisation he was allegedly associated with and said his privilege had been violated by declaring him a terrorist. He also demanded that evidence against him be presented.
Zahid Reki called for Hamza Shafqat to be summoned and asked to provide evidence. He then threw his passport on the assembly floor in protest.
Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti condemned the manner in which the passport was thrown, saying it was inappropriate to throw the passport of a great country in such a manner.
Sarfraz Bugti apologised to the lawmaker for being stopped at the airport and said the additional home secretary had been summoned. He added that the matter would be discussed in his chamber.
Later, Zahid Reki apologised for throwing the passport, saying he had no wrong intention.
