Govt discusses gas load management plan
- PM Shehbaz directs authorities to prepare a comprehensive action plan on gas load management
The government has decided to give top priority to the domestic sector for the supply of local gas this winter.
The development came during a meeting held in Islamabad under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif regarding gas load management during winter.
According to a statement, PM Shehbaz directed authorities to prepare a comprehensive action plan on gas load management, and called for the adoption of advance measures.
PM also urged authorities to launch a robust public awareness campaign on the implementation of the gas load management strategy, and take all necessary steps to ensure uninterrupted gas supplies in the context of the current regional situation.
The meeting was briefed on measures regarding gas load management.
The briefing stated that domestic consumers would be prioritised for the supply of local gas. RLNG would be prioritised for power generation and industries.
A public awareness campaign would be launched to promote alternative energy sources in place of local gas at the household level.
The meeting was told that measures are also being taken to ensure uninterrupted delivery from gas reserves in the northern regions of the country. A proposal to introduce financing facilities for all types of electrical, water and space heating appliances is also under consideration.
The meeting was attended by Federal Minister for National Food Security Rana Tanveer Hussain, Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema, Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Muhammad Aurangzeb, Federal Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Ali Pervaiz Malik, Prime Minister’s Advisor on Industry Haroon Akhtar, Minister of State for Finance and Railways Bilal Azhar Kayani, and other relevant senior government officials.
