Security forces killed eight terrorists, including three key commanders of Fitna al-Khawarij, during an intelligence-based operation in Dera Ismail Khan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Radio Pakistan reported on Sunday.
According to the report, the operation was conducted after intelligence reports indicated the presence of terrorists in the area.
A large quantity of arms and ammunition, along with foreign currency, was recovered from the killed terrorists.
The operation was carried out under the Azm-e-Istehkam vision, with security forces reaffirming their resolve to eliminate terrorism and establish lasting peace in the country, it said.
President Asif Ali Zardari praised the security forces for killing the eight terrorists and eliminating three key commanders.
He also commended the recovery of heavy weapons and ammunition, saying, “We will never allow the nefarious designs of terrorists operating with foreign patronage and the support of local facilitators to succeed.”
He called for operations against Fitna al-Khawarij to continue with full force under the Azm-e-Istehkam vision and said the national resolve to eradicate terrorism from the country remained unwavering.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also lauded the security forces for the timely and effective operation, paying tribute to their bravery and determination.
He said, “The entire nation stands shoulder to shoulder with the security forces in the war against terrorism,” and reiterated his government’s resolve to continue operations against Fitna al-Khawarij until the complete elimination of terrorism.
