LAHORE: Pakistan-China relations are entering a new high-tech phase with cooperation expanding into artificial intelligence, new energy vehicles, industrial robotics and modern agriculture, Chinese Consul General in Lahore Sun Yan said.
Speaking at Government College University (GCU) Lahore at a ceremony marking the 77th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China and 75 years of Pakistan-China diplomatic relations, he said future cooperation would focus on technology, innovation and human-resource development.
Sun Yan said the bilateral partnership would soon reach a historic milestone with the first Pakistani astronaut travelling to China’s space station. GCU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Omer Chaudhry announced the revival of the university’s Chinese Research Center, which would host an international conference later this year. He also announced four nationwide research projects focusing on China’s economy.
Prof Chaudhry said around 30,000 Pakistani students were currently studying in China and called for formal mechanisms to facilitate the arrival of Chinese scholars in Pakistan. Dr Ahmad Raza of GCU’s Department of International Relations said Chinese Consul General Scholarships would be awarded soon.
