HBL celebrates 50 years in Bangladesh

Published Updated

HBL is celebrating 50 years of its operations in Bangladesh, marking decades of partnership with the country and its businesses. Since commencing operations in Bangladesh in 1976, HBL has grown alongside its customers, supporting trade, investment and financial flows and connecting businesses across markets.

To commemorate the occasion, a ceremony was held in Dhaka, attended by clients, regulators, and senior executives of the Bank. Distinguished guests included Sultan Ali Allana, Chairman – HBL; Muhammad Nassir Salim, President & CEO – HBL; Farhan Talib, Head International – HBL; and Alamgir Morshed, Country Manager Bangladesh.

Over five decades, HBL has built a strong presence in Bangladesh, supporting businesses and financial institutions as they participate in domestic and international markets.

Bangladesh is an important market within HBL’s regional footprint and reflects the Bank’s broader strategy of connecting businesses, capital and opportunities across key trade corridors in South Asia, China, the Middle East and Africa. Through its international network, HBL facilitates trade, investment and financial connectivity across markets, reinforcing its role as a leading regional bank and a trusted partner for clients operating across borders.

HBL’s international network provides a distinctive proposition for businesses in Bangladesh by strengthening economic connectivity between Bangladesh and HBL’s key international markets across South Asia, China, the Middle East and Africa.

Bangladesh is prioritizing foreign investment and international trade expansion, particularly in the context of emerging opportunities along the China–Middle East–South Asia trade corridor.

HBL Bangladesh now offers account services in RMB/CNY (Renminbi) for valued clients. HBL is one of the three banks from South Asia and the MENA region to offer end-to-end RMB intermediation in China, enabling the Bank to support cross-border trade and financial flows and engage directly with leading state-owned enterprises and top-tier Chinese financial institutions.
