KARACHI: The Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) has invited electronic bids for the export of 107,739 metric tonnes of imported white refined sugar.

The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet, in the third week of August, approved the issuance of international tenders for the export of around 108,000 metric tonnes of surplus sugar.

Following the federal government’s directives, the TCP has now issued an international e-tender for the export of surplus sugar that had previously been imported to avert a shortage in the domestic market.

According to the tender notice issued by the state run grain trader, the sugar will be disposed of on an ex-works TCP Pipri Godown Karachi basis and on an “as is where is” basis.

The TCP has invited bids under the Single Stage One Envelope procedure from eligible firms, companies and other entities, including individual bidders, sole proprietorships, partnership firms, private and public limited companies, holding companies, companies limited by guarantee, state-owned enterprises and intergovernmental organisations.

The e-bidding documents, prepared under the Disposal of Public Assets Regulations, 2024, containing detailed terms and conditions, specifications and other requirements, are available to registered bidders through the government’s EPADS v2.0 portal.

The TCP said manual bids will not be accepted and all bids must be submitted electronically through EPADS v2.0 by 11:00 am on Monday, September 28, 2026.

The electronic bids will be opened online on the same day at 11:30 am. Participating bidders will be automatically notified through EPADS v2.0 regarding the preliminary results of the e-disposal proceedings, while final results will be communicated subsequently in accordance with the bidding documents.

It may be mentioned here that to address the shortage of sugar in the domestic market, the ECC in June 2025 allowed the import of up to 500,000 metric tonnes sugar.

However, TCP imported 300,000 metric tonnes, of which, some 192,000 metric tonnes was sold in the domestic market, while approximately 108,000 tonnes commodity is remained with TCP and now the government has decided to export the imported sugar before the next crushing season.
