KARACHI: Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) has partnered with the United Kingdom’s MOBILIST programme to help mobilise private investment in Pakistan’s sustainable development and climate transition through products listed on the exchange.

Under the partnership, MOBILIST will work with PSX’s network of issuers and market intermediaries to identify products eligible for programme support. The initiative is aimed at supporting initial public offerings (IPOs) and the development of new listed products linked to sustainable development.

MOBILIST provides a combination of equity capital, technical assistance and advisory services to support eligible transactions in emerging markets and developing economies. The programme invests in listed products on public markets with the objective of mobilising private capital for sustainable development outcomes.

The programme also undertakes research on capital mobilisation through public markets, with the aim of increasing understanding of such transactions and encouraging other investors and market participants to pursue similar opportunities.

Alison Blackburne, Deputy High Commissioner Karachi, said the UK was partnering with PSX to mobilise private investment towards businesses addressing climate and development challenges in emerging markets, including Pakistan.

She cited products such as the Parwaaz Green Action Bond as an example of how development finance and public markets could be combined to mobilise private capital.

Farrukh H. Sabzwari, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of PSX, said the partnership would support businesses seeking access to Pakistan’s capital market.

According to Sabzwari, eligible businesses would be able to benefit from equity investment, technical assistance, technical advisory and enhanced visibility as they work towards listing on PSX.

He said the collaboration would help bring more sustainable businesses to the public market and create additional opportunities for them to raise capital.

PSX said the partnership would also support local businesses undertaking projects aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and net-zero commitments, while using the capital market to support sustainable growth and Pakistan’s broader sustainability agenda.
