DG PDMA Muhammad Saif Anwar Jappa said continuous monitoring of rivers, dams and barrages was being carried out across Punjab, while all relevant departments had been placed on alert to deal with any possible emergency.
According to the latest situation report, low-level flooding has been recorded in the Chenab River at Head Marala, where water inflow stood at 145,000 cusecs and outflow at 127,000 cusecs.

The PDMA said the current spell of monsoon rains was likely to continue until August 21 and the authority was maintaining round-the-clock monitoring of the situation through its control room.
No loss of life was reported in Punjab during the last 24 hours due to monsoon rains. However, 54 people have died and 341 others sustained injuries in various rain-related incidents during the current monsoon season.
The DG PDMA said the Punjab government would provide compensation to families affected by monsoon rains and other natural disasters under its policy, besides extending all possible relief to the victims. Flood relief camps have also been established in affected areas, where shelter, food, clean drinking water, medical assistance and other basic necessities would be provided to affected people, he added.
The DG urged citizens to take precautionary measures amid the prevailing weather and flood situation and avoid unnecessary visits to rivers, canals, streams, storm drains and low-lying areas. He particularly urged parents to keep children away from rivers, canals, streams and floodwater and never allow them to bathe or enter such areas. He said citizens should follow the instructions of relevant authorities during any emergency and take timely precautionary measures to protect themselves and their families.
