LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has directed the authorities to ensure strict legal action against those involved in rape, child abuse and corruption.
The CM directed that mobile police stations should provide services at citizens’ doorsteps, stating, “If a citizen cannot come to the police station, the police must go to their home to provide assistance.”
She issued these directives while chairing a high-level meeting on law and order, during which a comprehensive briefing on the province’s security situation was presented.
The Chief Minister called for a foolproof strategy to eradicate rape, child abuse, and corruption.
The meeting was informed that the Safe City Project has been completed in all 43 districts of Punjab and will be formally inaugurated soon. The Chief Minister approved the installation of more than 2,000 additional Safe City cameras in Lahore. It was also decided to expand the Safe City Project to another 98 tehsils and riverine (Katcha) areas.
The meeting was informed that a dedicated cell has been established in the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) to monitor blasphemy-related cases, while a Special Cyber Unit will also be set up to combat cybercrime. Additional personnel are being inducted into the force to strengthen security and development in tribal areas.
The CM noted that the establishment of the Crime Control Department (CCD) has led to a marked decline in the provincial crime rate. Reaffirming her commitment to public safety, the Chief Minister said, “Women and children are my red line. A zero-tolerance policy must be adopted against crimes targeting women and children.”
The meeting was further informed that 29,000 body cameras will be provided to police personnel by the first week of September.
The briefing stated that the registration process of Imams has been completed, while Rs10 billion has been released for more than 72,000 Imams across the province.
The participants were informed that more than 139,000 illegally residing individuals have been repatriated so far. During 2026, a total of 23,243 illegal foreign nationals have been deported, while 5,127 illegal Afghan nationals were shifted to holding centres during the first six months of the year.
The meeting was also informed that documentary and biometric verification of over 1.25 million individuals has been completed across Punjab. Furthermore, all necessary arrangements have been finalised to ensure the transparent conduct of the MDCAT examinations.
