LAHORE: The Chief Minister’s ‘Apni Chhat, Mehfooz Chhat’ interest-free loan initiative has witnessed a massive initial response, securing over 37,000 applications within days of its launch.
Reviewing the provision of interest-free loans and development projects on Tuesday, Punjab Housing Minister Bilal Yasin highlighted the surging public demand for affordable housing support across the province. During the meeting, the Minister was briefed on the progress of ongoing projects being carried out under the Punjab Housing and Urban Development Department.
During the briefing, it was highlighted that the programme has gained significant popularity within just a few days of its launch. Under the scheme, interest-free loans ranging from Rs500,000 to Rs1 million will be provided for constructing an additional storey, repairing homes, or building new rooms. More than 37,000 applications have already been submitted within a short period, and the number is expected to increase substantially. Beneficiaries of Rs500,000 loan will pay monthly instalments of only Rs4,700, while those receiving Rs1 million will pay Rs9,300 per month. Meanwhile, the number of applicants under this programme has surpassed 1.336 million.
While addressing the meeting, Yasin stated that approximately Rs226 billion has already been disbursed among 174,842 beneficiaries.
He further said that the Chief Minister has approved interest-free loans to help citizens meet essential housing needs, such as home repairs. The affordable monthly instalments for low-income families seeking to construct an additional floor or a room will not impose a financial burden. He emphasised that the Punjab government is turning its promises of public welfare, convenience, and affordable housing projects into reality.
