KARACHI: Chief Advisor of the Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association (PPDA), Malik Khuda Bakhsh, has expressed serious concern over the possibility of a petrol shortage in the country and urged the federal government to take immediate emergency measures.
He warned that any disruption in petrol supplies could create serious difficulties not only for the public but also for the national economy and the transportation system.
Malik Khuda Bakhsh said that, according to available information, Pakistan currently has petrol stocks sufficient for only 15 days of consumption, describing the situation as highly alarming.
He stressed that the government must immediately improve import and supply arrangements to avert any potential fuel crisis and ensure uninterrupted availability of petroleum products.
He further stated that delays in the WeBOC (Web-Based One Customs) system are affecting the clearance of imported petrol consignments, causing bottlenecks in the timely transportation of fuel from the ports.
If the issue is not resolved without delay, the country’s fuel supply chain could be severely disrupted, increasing the risk of petrol shortages in various cities.
The PPDA Chief Advisor called upon the government, the relevant ministries, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), and Customs authorities to resolve the WeBOC system issues on an emergency basis, ensure the prompt clearance of imported petrol, and maintain close coordination with oil marketing companies to guarantee an uninterrupted fuel supply across the country so that the public does not face unnecessary hardship.
