ISLAMABAD: The sisters of incarcerated Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and members of his legal team were once again denied permission to meet him at Adiala Jail on Tuesday.
Khan’s sisters, Aleema Khan, Dr Uzma Khan and Noreen Khan, along with PTI leaders, including provincial ministers and parliamentarians, were stopped by police at Factory Naka near Adiala Jail and barred from proceeding to the prison.
Following the denial of the meeting, Khan’s sisters, party leaders, and a large number of PTI workers staged a sit-in outside the jail, protesting what they described as the continued refusal to allow family members and lawyers to meet the former prime minister. PTI workers chanted slogans demanding Khan’s release and criticized the government.
Speaking to reporters, Aleema Khan said she was unaware of reports regarding proposed legislation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa related to lawmakers’ privileges and media restrictions. “I have no idea what legislation you are referring to,” she said. “We are here to meet Imran Khan. Please keep your questions limited to our visit.”
Responding to a question about the party’s reported boycott of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir elections, she rejected suggestions that the decision had been made under pressure. “There can be no pressure on PTI regarding such matters. PTI is an independent party and can make its own decisions,” she said.
Asked about the party’s planned protest on August 5, Aleema said the matter should be addressed by the party leadership. “Imran Khan is the leader of PTI, and the party will stage protests for him,” she said.
Rejecting claims that PTI exists only on social media, she said, “It is completely wrong to describe PTI as merely a social media party. You will see everything in due course. Everything has its own time.”
