Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi discussed the regional situation during a meeting with Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in Tehran on Saturday, the ministry said.
Naqvi reached Tehran for meetings with senior Iranian officials, according to Iran’s state news agency IRNA.
IRNA said Naqvi would discuss the progress of negotiations between Iran and the United States during his visit, without providing further details.
Pakistan has positioned itself as an influential diplomatic actor in efforts to reduce tensions between the United States and Iran, leveraging its longstanding relationships with both countries and its strategic regional ties.
In recent months, Islamabad has engaged in high-level contacts with Iranian leadership while simultaneously maintaining open channels with Washington and key regional stakeholders. Pakistani officials have consistently framed their engagement as focused on de-escalation and regional stability rather than alignment with any one bloc.
The United States and Iran reached a deal to end their war and were expected to hold an official signing ceremony on Friday in Switzerland, which later delayed due to Israel’s continuous strikes on Lebanon. Iran wants ceasefire in Lebanon part of the deal with the US.
