One wonders what the status of teaching of economics in our schools and colleges is? Does the subject economics gets its rightful place in our curriculum? Or is it restricted to those students who are studying commerce and business administration and finance?

In short those students who are specializing in business studies whereas a layman is kept at bay on the pretext that it does not concern him. This premise might not be right. Economics concerns everyone, and it is incumbent upon even a layman to have at least the basic knowledge of how the principles of economics play out in the real world.

Just take an example of one feature that is fundamental to the economists: what should be the rate of interest on bank borrowings? A high interest rate deters borrowings while a low interest rate carries the risk of inflation.

Both the phenomena have their pro and cons, and this subject, like other basic economics subjects, must not be left to the specialists alone because they affect everyone.

One may not be wrong in suggesting that the teaching of the subject of economics must not be restricted to business students only, but that it should also be introduced in other disciplines as well.
