KARACHI: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) authorises Bilawal Bhutto Zardari to decide on Gilgit-Baltistan government formation after emerging as largest party.

Pakistan Peoples Party lawmakers in Gilgit-Baltistan on Friday unanimously authorised party Chairman to make all decisions regarding the formation of the region’s next government after the party emerged as the single largest political force in the recently held elections.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the PPP’s parliamentary party in Gilgit chaired by PPP Secretary-General Senator Nayyar Hussain Bokhar.

The participants conducted a comprehensive review of the election results and deliberated on possible strategies for forming the next administration in the mountainous northern region of the country.

The parliamentary group expressed satisfaction over the party’s electoral performance, describing its emergence as the single largest party in the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly as a significant political achievement that had strengthened its position in the post-election landscape.

Members credited the outcome to what they termed an extensive and successful election campaign led by Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and PPP leader, saying their active engagement with voters across the region helped mobilise support and consolidate the party’s electoral base.

According to participants, the meeting also examined various options for government formation, including potential political arrangements and alliances that could enable the party to establish a stable administration in Gilgit-Baltistan.

The lawmakers unanimously reaffirmed their confidence in Bilawal’s leadership and authorised him to take all decisions relating to coalition-building, negotiations and the formation of the next government.

The move effectively places Bilawal at the centre of political negotiations expected to shape the next government in Gilgit-Baltistan, where parties are engaged in consultations following an election that produced a fragmented mandate and heightened coalition-building efforts.

Political observers say the PPP’s position as the largest party gives it a significant advantage in post-election negotiations, although discussions with other political stakeholders are likely to determine the final composition of the regional government.
