KARACHI: The Pakistan Peoples Party is taking steps to “transform” Karachi through “major infrastructure, water, education and healthcare initiatives” that has already been approved by the Sindh Cabinet, says Karamullah Waqasi.

While elaborating on the decisions taken during a cabinet meeting chaired by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, the spokesman for the Mayor of Karachi and PPP parliamentary leader in the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, Karamullah Waqasi said on Wednesday the approval of development projects worth Rs11.198 billion for road rehabilitation and infrastructure improvement would “significantly enhance” traffic flow and transportation facilities in the city.

He said an additional funding of Rs8.824 billion for 16 water supply and drainage schemes would help address Karachi’s chronic water and sewerage issues, improving access to clean drinking water and strengthening urban infrastructure.

Waqasi also highlighted the approval of flyover projects at the Power House Chowrangi and Surjani Town 4K Chowrangi, saying the “schemes would ease congestion, reduce travel time and benefit hundreds of thousands of commuters daily”.

He also shed lighton the approval of the charter for the Fatimiyah International University Karachi, describing it as “a positive step” for higher education and research opportunities in the province.

The PPP leader also appreciated the allocation of more than Rs395 million for outstanding health sector liabilities and the approval of the Sindh Nursing Workforce Strategic Policy, saying the measures would help strengthen healthcare services.

Waqasi said the Sindh government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, had been accelerating development throughout the city and the province, reaffirming the PPP’s commitment to improving civic amenities and addressing longstanding urban challenges.
