PESHAWAR: The chairman of Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) Standing Committee on Dry Port/Railway, Ziaul Haq held a meeting with newly appointed Divisional Superintendent (DS) of Pakistan Railways, Peshawar Imran Hayat Khan.

Zia apprised the senior railway official about the problems being faced by business community of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa due to improper functioning of newly constructed Azakhel Dry Port.

Ziaul Haq Sarhadi, who is also senior member of the chamber’s executive committee, in a statement here on Sunday extended heartfelt felicitations to Imran Hayat Khan being appointing Railway DS Peshawar, who is from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has great knowledge about issues being facing by business community, essential having command to address them amicable.

Six years back, the prime minister inaugurated the Azakhel Dryport at 28 acre with estimated cost of Rs600 million, but despite the passage of many years, the dry port is yet not fully made operational that has caused great difficulties for the trading community, demanding urgent attention of the government and Pakistan Railway in this regard, he remarked.

Divisional Superintendent Imran Hayat Khan while exchanging views on the occasion said reforms and steps have been initiated to address the genuine grievances of the business community.

He assured the issues at Azakhel Dry Port will be taken up with higher officials at central level and would take prompt steps to facilitate the business community at every level.

The senior official said government prudent policies and reforms made the Pakistan Railways a profit making entity.

He said the reforms process is underway to provide further facilitation services to the business community.

DS Railways Imran Hayat also congratulated Ziaul Haq Sarhadi for honoring with ‘Sitara I Imtiaz’ by the government for his untiring services.
