ISLAMABAD: The federal capital witnessed a surge in heinous crimes during the past week, including two murder cases, a kidnapping-cum-murder incident and a shocking case of alleged domestic torture.

According to data gathered by Business Recorder from registered First Information Reports (FIRs), two murder cases were reported during the week, while a young man abducted from a posh sector of Islamabad was later found murdered in Mardan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Besides the murder cases, 29 incidents of vehicle theft were reported, including one car theft and 28 motorcycle thefts.

The city also witnessed seven cases of street crime involving armed mobile phone snatching and cash theft, along with six robbery incidents in which citizens were deprived of valuables.

Several police jurisdictions emerged as hotspots for criminal activity, including Shalimar, Karachi Company, Sunbal, Tarnol and Khanna police stations.

One of the most shocking incidents was the kidnapping and murder of 30-year-old Farrukh Afzal, who was allegedly abducted at gunpoint by four to five armed men from outside his residence in Sector F-6/1 around midnight on May 4. His body was later recovered from Mardan.

In another tragic incident, a domestic worker, Kausar Parveen, died in Sector I-10/1 allegedly after being subjected to severe torture by her employers within the limits of Sabzi Mandi police station.

The victim’s uncle, Mumtaz Hussain, told police that his niece had started working at the house of Atib Ahmed, Zahra Bibi and Azhar around six months ago on the recommendation of a woman identified as Kulsoom.

He said the family initially received a call from the employers informing them that the girl had fallen ill and had been admitted to hospital, asking them to arrive immediately. However, shortly afterwards, they received another call informing them that she was dead.

The complainant alleged that the victim’s body bore multiple injury marks, while deep bite wounds were visible on her face and neck. He further alleged that when the family questioned the suspects about the injuries, they threatened them with serious consequences and fled the hospital after learning that police had been informed.

Furthermore, an unidentified assailant attacked Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Imtiaz Ahmad with a knife, leaving him critically wounded at Kashmir Chowk. The injured officer was immediately shifted to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) for medical treatment. Officials said ASI Imtiaz Ahmad was serving in the Security Division at the time of the incident.

During last week, two cases of auto theft and one case each of robbery and street crime reported to Shalimar police, one case each of murder, auto theft and street crime registered at Sunbal police station and another two cases of carjacking and one case of street registered at Khanna police station.
