ISLAMABAD: The opposition Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Monday demanded the immediate release of full medical records for jailed former prime minister Imran Khan, including retinal scans, OCT imaging, visual field tests and ERG reports, so they can be scrutinised independently.
In a statement, the party said prolonged detention, restricted access to healthcare and extended solitary confinement have severely damaged Khan’s eyesight and overall health, and called on authorities to act without delay to protect his wellbeing and dignity.
PTI denounced medical assessments carried out without the presence of trusted doctors or family members as unreliable and a violation of patient rights.
The party insisted on Khan’s immediate transfer to Shifa International Hospital for a comprehensive and transparent examination, particularly of his eye condition, and demanded that his personal physicians, including Dr Faisal Sultan and Dr Asim Yousaf, be given unrestricted access.
It also called for a family member to be present during any evaluation to guarantee full transparency.
PTI warned that the health of jailed party senator Ijaz Chaudhry is rapidly deteriorating, with his kidney disease having advanced to stage III.
It called for his urgent transfer to a fully equipped hospital, stressing that effective treatment is impossible in prison.
The party extended its demand to proper medical care for all elderly and ailing political prisoners, particularly those held in Kot Lakhpat Jail and other facilities.
Framing the issue as a matter of human rights, PTI condemned the imprisonment of Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi in what it described as “bogus” cases.
The statement also criticised the government for failing to address the country’s economic crisis, citing rising living costs, inflation and soaring electricity and gas tariffs.
PTI said households and businesses are suffering amid RLNG supply disruptions, dwindling domestic gas reserves, persistent load shedding, LPG shortages and repeated electricity tariff hikes.
The party slammed the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) for failing to deliver and warned that policy uncertainty and weak rule of law are driving away investors and stalling foreign investment.
It demanded immediate reductions in electricity, petrol and gas prices, urgent reforms in the energy sector, and concrete steps to restore investor confidence through clear policies and strict enforcement of the law.
Separately, Tehreek-e-Tahffuz-e-Aain-e-Pakistan spokesman Hussain Ahmed Yousafzai said Barrister Salman Safdar had conveyed – via PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja – that Khan fully backs the movement’s leadership.
He said that Imran Khan described Mahmood Khan Achakzai and Raja Nasir Abbas as “principled and courageous colleagues committed to upholding the constitution and the rule of law,” expressing total confidence in their leadership.
He emphasised that the movement remains united and dismissed rumours challenging its leadership as baseless.
