LAHORE: The Lahore administration has intensified its monitoring of the prices and availability of essential commodities in the provincial capital.

Commissioner Lahore, Marryam Khan, along with District Commissioner Lahore Captain Ali Ijaz (retd), visited Sahulat Bazaar in Wahdat Colony to check the supply of flour, pulses, ghee, meat, and sugar. They also assessed the availability and quality of fruits and vegetables in the market. During this visit, the Commissioner took feedback from citizens regarding the availability and prices of these items. Additionally, she reviewed the cleanliness, parking, security, and other facilities in Sahulat Bazaar.

The Commissioner expressed satisfaction with the quality of all goods, including fruits, vegetables, and meat, and noted that strict checks are being conducted in both the open market and Sahulat Bazaars. Furthermore, following the District Commissioner’s instructions, the assistant commissioners are closely monitoring the prices of essential commodities and the bidding process in the markets. Their recent inspections revealed that the arrival of 135 trucks with fresh produce has led to a decrease in the prices of watermelon and chikoo by Rs 15.

The District Commissioner directed officials to ensure that the benefits of these price reductions are communicated to the public promptly. He emphasised the importance of continuing the crackdown on vendors who charge excessively. Preventing artificial inflation and protecting citizens’ rights remains the district administration’s top priority.

Meanwhile, Assistant Commissioner Saddar Dr Abid Mumtaz Khan Sial took action against price gouging in various supermarkets within Tehsil Saddar. During his visit, he reviewed the prices and quality of goods at DC counters and imposed a fine of Rs 30,000 on one supermarket for price gouging.

Dr Abid Mumtaz stated that prices are being strictly monitored to provide relief to citizens during Ramazan. The deputy commissioner clarified that the purpose of DC counters is to offer direct relief to the public, and indiscriminate action will continue against those contributing to artificial inflation.
