ISLAMABAD: The Sensitive Price Index-based inflation for the week ended on March 5 has registered an increase of 0.37 percent owing to a hike in the prices of chicken 10.46 percent, Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) 5.61percent, bananas 3.85percent, petrol 3.06percent, diesel 1.84percent, garlic 1.23percent, beef 0.66percent, mutton 0.65percent, pulse mash 0.51percent, lawn printed 0.43percent, gur 0.30 percent, and mustard oil 0.24percent.

The SPI inflation-related data released here on Friday by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) said that on a week-on-week basis, notable reductions in the prices of tomatoes 10.04 percent, eggs 8.13percent, onions 6.08percent, potatoes 5.09percent, wheat flour 2.40percent, pulse gram 0.50percent, pulse moong 0.43percent, and cooking oil 5 litres 0.37percent.

During the week, out of 51, prices of 13 items, or 25.49 percent, witnessed an increase, whereas the prices of 11 items, or 21.57 percent, witnessed a reduction, while the prices of the 27 items, or 52.96 percent, remained stable.

On a year-on-year (YoY) basis, however, the SPI registered an increase of 4.70 percent. On a year-on-year (YoY) basis, notable increases were observed in gas charges for Q1 29.85 percent, wheat flour 26.13percent, electricity charges for Q1 17.33percent, LPG 16.89percent, chilies powder 15.20percent, beef 12.36percent, firewood 11.40percent, powdered milk 10.16percent, mutton 9.32percent, tomatoes 9.02percent, gur 8.51percent and rice basmati broken 6.18percent.

Significant annual reductions were recorded in the price of potatoes 53.76percent, onions 26.10percent, eggs 24.93percent, garlic 22.25percent, chicken 21.70percent, pulse gram 21.37percent), salt powder 12.52percent and pulse masoor 10.71percent.

The SPI for the lowest consumption group with a monthly income of up to Rs 17,732 remained unchanged at 323.48 points.

However, the SPI for consumption group with monthly income of Rs17,733–22,888, witnessed an increase of 0.09 percent from 325.20 points to 325.48 points, for consumption group with monthly income of Rs22,889–29,517 SPI went up from 345.76 points to 346.32 points, for consumption group with monthly income of Rs 29,518–44,175 it went up from by 0.26 percent from 332.19 points to 333.05 points and for consumption group with monthly income of Rs44,175 and above SPI 0.53 percent from 331.23 points to 333 points.
