ISPR confirms ex-COAS Qamar Bajwa hospitalised following fall at home
- Says Bajwa currently undergoing treatment at CMH
Former Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa sustained injuries due to a fall at his residence, the military’s media wing confirmed on Thursday.
“He is currently undergoing treatment at a Combined Military Hospital (CMH),” the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said, while updating on health of the former army chief Bajwa, a day after reports in this regard started circulating.
Reports indicate that Gen (retd) Bajwa slipped and fell in the washroom of his residence in Rawalpindi around 4:30am on Tuesday.
The fall resulted in injuries to multiple parts of his body, including a head injury, Business Recorder reported on Thursday, citing family sources. Following the incident, he was rushed to a hospital in Rawalpindi for urgent medical care.
Sources close to the family revealed that Gen Bajwa (retd) is currently under observation in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), where doctors are closely monitoring his condition.
As of now, hospital officials have not issued an official statement on his health status.
It is worth noting that Qamar Bajwa was appointed as the 16th chief of army staff by then-Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in November 2016.
As his three-year tenure neared its conclusion, the government of former prime minister Imran Khan granted him a three-year extension in August 2019.
After commanding the Pakistan Army for six years, Bajwa retired in November 2022. He is a recipient of Nishan-e-Imtiaz (Military).
