‘Alhamdulillah, he’s absolutely fine’: Tarar confirms Imran Khan underwent eye procedure

  • Says 20-minute medical procedure conducted after ex-PM's written consent
Published Updated

Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar clarified on Thursday that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founding chairman Imran Khan is in good health following a successful medical procedure at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS).

The statement comes as a response to concerns raised by the PTI regarding the former prime minister’s eye ailment.

Speaking to Geo News, the information minister said an eye specialist initially examined Imran within the Adiala jail. Upon the specialist’s recommendation for a minor medical treatment, he was shifted to PIMS last Saturday night.

“Following a further check-up and his written consent, a 20-minute medical procedure was conducted,” the minister stated. He added that the prisoner’s vitals remained “completely stable” throughout the process, and he was returned to the Adiala jail shortly after with essential recovery instructions.

“Alhamdulillah, he is absolutely fine and healthy,” the minister remarked, dismissing claims of any serious health risks. The government maintained that the transfer and procedure were handled strictly according to the recommendations of the attending eye specialists.

Addressing the transparency of the process, Tarar stated that all prisoners are provided access to medical professionals in accordance with established rules and regulations.

The development comes a couple of days after the PTI expressed serious concern over the health of its incarcerated leader Imran, claiming he is suffering from a critical eye condition that could lead to permanent loss of eyesight, if not treated promptly.

In a statement posted on social media platform X, the party said it had learned through credible reports that Imran had been diagnosed with central retinal vein occlusion in his right eye, resulting in a dangerous blockage affecting vision.
