CJP slams CM Shehbaz's publicity campaigns

Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif has again come under the Supreme Court's (SC) radar, for using taxpayers' money for self-publicity.
The Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Saqib Nisar expressed his annoyance at Shehbaz's pictures being printed on the expense of nation's money, during the hearing in the SC Lahore Registry on Saturday.
The SC had taken a suo motu notice on Shehbaz's pictures being printed on laptops distributed under the provincial government's scheme.
Expressing his anger at political parties over utilizing public money for their publicity campaigns, the CJP warned the government officials to mend their ways, reported local media .
The CJP adjourning the hearing has ordered Chief Secretary Punjab to submit a report along with the total amount spent on laptop scheme.
SC orders Shehbaz Sharif to return Rs5.5mn spent on his advertisement
On March 8, the SC had ordered the Punjab CM to return Rs 5.5 million he had spent on a newspaper advertisement bearing his picture. On being informed about the amount spent on the advertisement, the CJP remarked that the hefty amount could have been used for providing medicines to the people.
