LAHORE: After Cop30, Forbes, and Bloomberg, BBC has also recognized Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s ‘Suthra’ (Clean) Punjab programme, as it has reported that Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s ‘Clean Punjab’ model has become a role model in the UK.

It added that the cleanliness model of Clean Punjab has reached Birmingham, a British city; as for the first time in history, a volunteer group from a British city has sought guidance from Punjab in waste management. It highlighted that the ‘Clean Punjab’ model has proven effective in solving problem of boiling garbage and frequent strikes in Birmingham.

BBC reported that this digital partnership of Punjab experts and Birmingham volunteers in waste management has changed many assumptions, as Punjab’s waste management plan (Clean Punjab) has become an example worthy of imitation for institutions around the world. It added, “After learning from Punjab, we have realized that though we live in the West, we have lagged behind in responsibility. It underscored that UK Local Volunteers consulted ‘Suthra’ Punjab experts online, while their first contact took place at COP-30 climate conference in Brazil.

BBC highlighted that details of “Suthra (Clean) Punjab” program were presented at Pakistan pavilion in COP-30, while CEO Lahore Waste Management Company briefed the volunteers from Birmingham in an online meeting. He apprised them about Punjab’s model and solutions to local problems. It said that Punjab’s modern waste management system “Suthra Punjab” has received great international recognition, as the global magazine Bloomberg declared its ‘Waste to Value Project’ as a major project, adding that it is contributing Rs 300 billion annually to Punjab economy through environment-friendly activities.
