ISLAMABAD: The Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) meeting will be held on December 2 for the appointment of a permanent judge to the Supreme Court and Chief Justices of the Sindh High Court and the Balochistan High Court.

According to the agenda released by the JCP, the first session of the JCP will be held at 1:30 pm, followed by the second session at 2:00 pm, and the last session will be held at 2:30 pm.

Earlier this week, the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC), Judicial Commission (JC), and the Practice and Procedure Committee were reconstituted after the approval of the 27th Constitutional amendment.

The reconstituted bodies will continue to play a central role in matters of accountability, judicial appointments, and procedural governance under the amended constitutional scheme. Changes in their composition were required to synchronize them with the latest constitutional amendment.

Justice Aamer Farooq, the next most senior judge of the Federal Constitutional Court of Pakistan, has jointly been nominated as a member of the Judicial Commission of Pakistan by the Chief Justice of Pakistan and the Chief Justice of the Federal Constitutional Court of Pakistan under Clause 2 (iiia) of Article 175A of the Constitution.”

Following this, the JCP will now comprise CJP Yahya Afridi, FCC Chief Justice Amin-ud-Din Khan, most senior judge of SC Justice Muneeb Akhtar, most senior judge of FCC Justice Syed Hassan Azhar Rizvi, next most senior judge of FCC Justice Aamer Farooq, Attorney General for Pakistan Mansoor Usman Awan, Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar, Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) representative Ahsan Bhoon, two members from the National Assembly, two members from the Senate and a woman or a non-Muslim to be nominated by the Speaker National Assembly.
