ISLAMABAD: The Federal Constitutional Court has issued its first official cause list, marking the beginning of formal judicial proceedings since the court’s establishment.

According to the newly released list, three benches will take up a series of constitutional cases starting next week.

As per the schedule, Chief Justice of the Federal Constitutional Court, Justice Aminuddin Khan, will preside over hearings in Courtroom No 1. Justice Hasan Azhar Rizvi has been assigned to conduct proceedings in Courtroom No. 2, where he will hear a separate set of constitutional matters.

Justice Agha takes oath as FCC judge

The third bench, comprising Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice K.K. Agha, will sit as a two-member bench in Courtroom No. 3. This bench is also expected to handle key constitutional petitions that have been pending since the court’s formation.

This cause list is the first ever issued by the Federal Constitutional Court, signifying the commencement of a new judicial mechanism designed to exclusively address constitutional issues.

It is noteworthy that Chief Justice Aminuddin Khan delivered his first major administrative decision on November 14, when he appointed the court’s senior officials. Former District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Hafeez was appointed as Registrar of the Federal Constitutional Court, while Mazhar Bhatti was designated as Secretary to the Chief Justice.

With the issuance of its inaugural cause list, the Federal Constitutional Court is now set to begin functioning fully, taking up crucial constitutional cases in the coming days.
