ISLAMABAD: The Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Pakistan, Alisher Tukhtaev, called on National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq at the Parliament House.

Both sides held comprehensive discussions on enhancing bilateral ties, parliamentary engagement, regional developments, and matters of mutual interest.

Speaker Sadiq said that Pakistan and Uzbekistan are bound by enduring ties of faith, culture, and shared history, which continue to unite the people of both countries. He remarked that Pakistan places high importance on its brotherly and historic relationship with Uzbekistan and is eager to expand it across multiple dimensions.

Emphasising the need for greater parliamentary linkages, the speaker stated that inter-parliamentary cooperation plays a vital role in promoting people-to-people contacts. He lauded the active role of the Pakistan-Uzbekistan Parliamentary Friendship Group in building stronger parliamentary collaboration between the two nations.

Speaker Sadiq reiterated Pakistan’s resolve to enhance both parliamentary and economic ties with Uzbekistan. He underscored the vast potential that exists for boosting trade and investment and called for enhanced regional cooperation to achieve lasting peace, stability, and sustainable development.

Ambassador Tukhtaev appreciated the efforts of Speaker Sadiq in promoting parliamentary diplomacy and acknowledged his leadership in cementing closer ties between the two legislatures. He said that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s recent visit to Uzbekistan proves a milestone in bilateral relations, stating that it had given fresh momentum to mutual cooperation. He praised Pakistan’s regional significance and commended the country's political leadership for its steadfast commitment to economic development and regional harmony.

Ambassador Tukhtaev stated that the wide-ranging opportunities available for advancing trade, investment, and economic collaboration between the two brotherly nations—opportunities that, he stressed, could be effectively realised through dynamic diplomatic and parliamentary engagement.
