ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Railways trains have adversely failed to follow the schedule time causing millions of rupees loss to national exchequer. The punctuality of trains has reduced from 59 percent to 42 percent.

According to details, during the financial year 2022-23, Pakistan Railway trains were delayed by 18596 hours due to which thousands of litres additional fuel was consume.

Official documents said that in 2022-23, Mail and Express trains schedule maintenance was reduced by a total 17 percent.

The schedule maintenance of inter-city trains remained at 97 percent in 2021-22, in 2022-23 schedule maintenance of intercity trains was recorded at 85 percent while overall of the schedule maintenance during 2021-22 remained 82 percent. Over schedule maintenance of trains in 2022-23 was recorded as 79 percent.

The documents further stated that engineering restriction caused 4557 hours in against the scheduled time while was 916 more than 2022-23. On the other hand, accidents caused 720 hours delay, bad weather caused 6029 hours delay which was 4163 hour more than previous financial year. Attaching rake with passenger trains caused 3149 hours delay against the schedule time of the trains. Over all delay during the period stand at 18596 hours, resulting in consumption of thousands of litres additional fuel causing million of rupees loss to Pakistan Railways and national exchequers.

Why don't we sell these burdens on economy? What's stopping us? PSM, PIA, PR need to go. The nation can't afford these any more. The sooner, the better!
