New ‘dumb phone' all set to curb our smartphone addiction

For all those who are addicted to their smartphones and want a cure for their addiction, a company has created a new 'dumb phone' that can be the answer to your worries.

The younger generation these days is all about smartphones and they probably won’t even be able to use a normal phone now. Yet a Brooklyn-based startup, Light, has created a dumb phone to help us away from smartphones, tackle social media addiction and enjoy the world more.

The company launched Light Phone 2, a successor of its Light Phone that was launched back in 2014. The Light Phone, described as a ‘quite a smart ‘dumb’ phone’, was only able to make calls and tell time and still sold over 10,000 Light Phones in 50 countries.

In 2014, the company’s goal was to create something to be a companion of the smartphones so that people can leave them at home and enjoy life. The new phone is now an upgraded version, aimed to replace the smartphones.

As per Business Insider, the Light Phone 2 is designed to manage the tasks through which a person can connect including calls, messages and getting directions and will abolish time wasting apps including social media and mobile games.

The founders, Joe Hollier and Kai Tang, wanted people to consider the significance of getting disconnecting from the digital world and ‘go light’. “Light Phone 2 encourages you to spend more quality time doing the things you love most, free of distractions,” Light announced.

Aiming to replace the smartphones, the new phone has an alarm clock, calls and messaging feature, speaker, microphone, E-Ink touchscreen, maps, music, headphone jack, USB-charging port and 4G LTE so that a person can hail rides from apps like Uber. The other quality of the phone is its light weight and size as small as a credit card, easy to fit anywhere. Starting shipping by early 2019, the phone will cost $400 and will be available in black or white color, reported The Verge.

“Enjoy a morning jog, a drink with an old friend, a night on the town or day at the park with your kids, waking up with a coffee and a good book, a trip to the beach, or simply some time away from your Instagram,” said the company.
