KARACHI: As part of the TDAP (T&L Div.) campaign for promotion of sustainability in the textile industry of Pakistan, TDAP conducted a pre-event awareness seminars on ‘Sustainability in the Leather Sector’ on March 20th at the TDAP Karachi, in view of its upcoming Texpo 2023 exhibition (26th - 28th May, 2023), wherein, stakeholders from the leather industry & environment experts attended this mindful session.
Basit Rauf, DG TDAP (Textiles & Leather), welcomed the participants and brought to light the need for adopting sustainable practices as demanded by the world and how Pakistan leather industry can capitalize on these methods by acquiring international certifications for the promotion of made in Pakistan leather products. As a keynote speaker, Amanullah Aftab, Chairman, PLGMEA & CEO, Hafiz Tanneries briefed the gathering on facts and figures of the leather sector and importance of LWG certification and its benefits for the local industry in times to come. The second speaker of the seminar having a prominent portfolio in the sector was Asfandyar Farrukh, MD, HUB (Urban Brands) who highlighted the best practices and goal of eco-friendly production techniques which are in great demand by internationally conscious consumers.
