ISLAMABAD: Dr Asad Ashraf on Thursday won the senate bye-election on the General seat from Punjab province that fell vacant after the disqualification of ex-senator Nehal Hashmi.
According to the ‘commentary of the count’ issued by Provincial Election Commissioner Punjab/ Returning Officer Senate bye-election, Dr Asad Ashraf had grabbed 298 votes while Zarqa Suharwardy Taimur got 38 votes.
The ECP had issued 350 ballot papers while the total numbers of voters were 368. The number of invalid voters were 12 while number of cancelled votes were two.
The winning candidate required 169 votes to win the seat which was comfortably secured.
