KARACHI: A large number of fishermen on Thursday staged a protest rally with the body of fisherman slain in Indian prison and shouted anti-India slogans.
The tortured body of slain fisherman Abdul Kareem was laid on the Native Jetty Bridge to protest his death by Indian prison authorities. He belonged Keamari's island. He died from torture in Indian jail, where he was prisoned for so-called violating maritime border between the two nations, fishermen said.
The angry fishermen also set an effigy of Indian prime minister Modi, vowing to start a drive to get 119 Pakistanis freed from India's notorious prisons. They said that millions of fishermen will also stage a sit-in protest outside Indian High Commission and the UN office in Islamabad.
They urged the world nations to denounce the India's atrocities and take notice of its crimes against the innocent fishermen. They were of the view that the drive to be started will continue until the last fisherman getting released from the Indian prison.
Fishermen Cooperative Society (FCS) chairman Abdul Burr said Indian policy of fishermen is irrational. He also criticized the country's foreign ministry for failing to take up the matter with its Indian counterpart. He said Pakistan as a good well gesture has been releasing Indian fishermen with gifts and souvenirs whereas Indian government is sending bodies of Pakistanis.
