KARACHI: In a statement issued in local press, K-Electric has expressed its grief over the electrocution incidents being regularly reported through local media from Karachi.

As a caring corporate entity, KE has been regularly raising precautionary and safety messages about rains for wellbeing of the citizens. The organization however shared its utmost concerns over the incidents mostly occurred due to faulty internal building wirings, leakage of current in water pumps and motors, unsafe wiring of generators, use of Kundas, unsafe TV and internet cables and post rain water-logging around electricity infrastructure being some of the dominating reasons.

In statement to media K-Electric spokesperson has also rejected any false allegations of unfortunate electrocution incidents to its infrastructure as reported in a small section of the press. The power utility has particularly expressed its grief on the tragic incidents reported after the recent torrential monsoon rains in the city and sympathised with the affected families.

According to various media reports, roughly 16 different incidents of electrocution were reported from different parts of Karachi during recent weeks after rains.

Whereas all incidents remain tragic for the utility, the loss of precious life of a motorcyclist on Karsaz Road and a minor in Gulshan Hadeed were the ones where evidences are being investigated about involvement of the KE infrastructure. KE has already suspended two staff members till the completion of investigations. The company also remains closely in contact with families of both the victims.

KE has reiterated that the safety of human life remains the top most priority of the company. KE has been running dedicated safety campaigns to urge citizens to maintain a safe distance from broken wires, poles and other power infrastructure, especially during and after the rain.-PR
