Punjab considers opening marriage halls after Eid-ul-Azha

The Government of Punjab is considering reopening marriage halls which are closed due to coronavirus, after Eid-ul-Azha.
Punjab Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs Raja Basharat said the decision on the opening of marriage halls would be taken after Eid-ul-Azha. He further said the government has held meetings with the office bearers of the Marriage Halls Association, local media reported.
Following a spike in coronavirus cases in Pakistan, the government had closed off marriage halls across the country. However, Marriage Halls Association has been calling for the reopening of halls, protesting that if shopping malls, inter- and intra-city transport, cattle market and places of worship were opened, then why marriage halls/ banquets could not be allowed to operate.
Meanwhile, Punjab reported 372 new cases and five deaths due to coronavirus. The provincial tally has climbed to 90,816, while death toll stands at 2,095.
