PNS Yarmook joins Pakistan naval fleet

The new state of the art ship PNS Yarmook has finally been inducted to the Pakistan Navy's fleet on Monday. The warship is equipped with state-of-the-art weapon and defense systems and is capable of performing numerous naval operations and can also carry helicopters and drones.

The 2,300-tonne corvette PNS ‘Yarmook’ F-271 is capable of performing a variety of tasks and maritime operations and could also transport a helicopter and an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV).

The ship is capable of launching two high-speed Rigid-Hulled Inflatable Boats (RHIBs) at 11.5 meters and 6.5 meters simultaneously and can accommodate two Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units (TEUs) for special mission operations.

The ship is capable of carrying Surface to Air Missiles (SAM), Surface to Surface Missiles (SMM), and Soft Weapons System. In the navigation department, the ship is loaded with Identification Friend or Foe (IFF), Command and Control System, external communication equipment, Infrared Search and Tracking (IRST) system, fiber optic gyro, and ESM with 360-degree coverage.

The ship was built by, Damen, a Dutch shipbuilder, which in 2017 signed a contract with Pakistan’s Ministry of Defence Production for two multi-purpose OPVs. Damen constructed the corvette at its yard in Galati, an Ottoman shipyard. The yard has built nearly 40 vessels for the defense and security segment.

As per naval officials, the introduction of this vessel into the naval fleet will significantly enhance Pakistan Navy’s capability to safeguard its maritime borders.
