Independent adjudicator reserves order on Umar Akmal appeal

Middle order batsman was charged by the PCB on two counts of breaching its anti-corruption code.

Former Supreme Court judge Justice Faqir Muhammad Khokhar (retd), in his capacity as an independent adjudicator, reserved his order on Umar Akmal’s appeal after listening to the arguments of both sides today (Monday).

On 27 April, the Chairman of the Disciplinary Panel, Justice Fazal-e-Miran Chauhan (retid), had banned Umar Akmal for three years after finding him guilty of breaching Article 2.4.4 of the PCB Anti-Corruption Code in two separate incidents.

Article 2.4.4: Failing to disclose to the PCB Vigilance and Security Department (without unnecessary delay) full details of any approaches or invitations received by the Participant to engage in Corrupt Conduct under this Anti-Corruption Code.

The PCB will not comment on the matter until the order is made public.

Akmal was charged by the PCB on two counts of breaching its anti-corruption code, and while each charge carries a three-year ban, they are being run concurrently.
