ATC indicts Uzair Baloch in trader kidnapping, murder case

An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Karachi indicted on Tuesday Lyari's gangster Uzair Jan Baloch for kidnapping and then murdering a trader.

Indicting Baloch who appeared before the court, the judge said that the gangster is accused of killing Abdul Samad, a trader. The ATC said Baloch first kidnapped the trader and asked his family ransom of Rs1 million.

Reading out the charge-sheet, the judge said Baloch still killed the trader even after his family paid the ransom, local media reported. Baloch has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The court then directed that witnesses record their testimonies in the next hearing.

On Monday, in its report, the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) revealed that Baloch has confessed to having killed 198 people on ethnic and political grounds. He confessed of killing three police constables, Shuja Shah, Tufaor Ahmed and Raj. He also killed two Rangers' personnel, Havaldars Munir and Ijaz.
