Mexican interior minister says survived deadly helicopter crash

MEXICO CITY: Mexican Interior Minister said Friday he was on board a helicopter that crashed near the epicenter of a powerful earthquake in the country's south, and that people on the ground were killed in the accident.

"I understand that there are people who have lost their lives," Navarrete told the Televisa network, without specifying numbers.

He had been traveling with the governor of the state of Oaxaca, where the quake occurred, and said several passengers were injured.
